The 2008 Primary Election is near!

When one party controls both houses of Congress and the Presidency, we have found exactly what can happen, unwise fiscal policy, scandals, laws enacted that go against the very heart of the bill of rights, including:

  • Irresponsible tax cuts
  • Interest rates kept low
  • Deficit ceilings raised five times
  • Corruption with federal indictments being issued
  • Loss of our basic rights

Consumer debt is over $2.34 trillion, not counting home or business debt. And our trade balance is about minus $500 billion. The total debt, government, private etc now amounts to roughly $180,000 per person for everyone in the US (no wonder our babies cry as they are born into the world with this debt facing them). That was in 2004. In 2006, with a year of refinancing real estate, plus no money down for car sales, this figure is much higher.

With all this pump priming, it appears that two major airlines are about at the end of their rope, crude oil prices are nearing $50.00 per barrel forecasting even higher gas prices. Nearly 1,000,000 new cars are unsold on lots. Foreclosures and bankruptcies are at an all time high. Oil reached an all time high, over $70.00 per barrel, and gas topped off over $3.00 per gallon.

Something odd though, have you ever noticed that as the approval polls for the president dropped, the gas prices dropped and has they improved, the gas prices increased?
Coincidence…? I’ll let you decide on November 7.

Below are some ideas I have that I believe America should pursue and will fight for in Congress:

Congressional Reform

  • Abolish Congressional Pensions. Congressional pensions are unnecessary and should be eliminated. Most companies today do not maintain pensions for their employees. Why should Congress have benefits that most Americans cannot obtain?

    My plan entails the following:

Retired and current members of the House and Senate may keep their pensions, but payments will be frozen and there will be no cost of living increases.

As of 2006, Congressmen should not be allowed into the pension system. They will go on Social Security and use personal savings, like everyone else for retirement.

  • At minimum, those Congressman when found guilty of a crime (corruption) while in office shall forfeit all benefits.

  • Congressional Term Limits now! Congress should pass a law that recognizes the right of states to impose term limits on members of Congress.

Campaign Finance Reform

  • House Campaigns. Limit money from outside district contributors. Perhaps, require that 50% must be raised in the district they are seeking to represent. Contributions should be limited to $3,000 for the primary and the same for the General Election.
  • Senate Campaigns. The same as the House except that 50% must be raised in the State and have the same totals from contributors as in the House.
  • Contribution Reports. With modern Internet capabilities, all contributions should be reported in 48 hours.

Lobbying Reform

  • $10,000 fee for foreign agents.
  • Americans must register with the Justice Department as foreign agents for foreign corporations.
  • Institutions and governments will be required to pay a $10,000 annual licensing fee. The Justice Department shall use this money to track and publicly report the activities of these foreign agents of influence to the United States.
  • There should be a five-year ban on all lobbying by former members of Congress and their staff.
  • There should be a five-year ban on all lobbying by former White House staff.
  • All tax-exempt public policy institutions foundations, think tanks, advocacy groups will publicly disclose all money received from foreign government, individual and institutions.

Tax Reform

  • Exempt the first $35,000 of wages or salaried income. Then set a reasonable rate on the remainder, say 15 to 20%.
  • Encourage personal generosity rather than public subsidy by retaining charitable giving deductions.
  • Facilitate middle class investments by maintaining home mortgage deductions.
  • Support strong families by including a generous per-child tax credit.
  • Abolish inheritance taxes on estates up to $5 million so that family farms and businesses are not bankrupted, but those living off inherited wealth do not avoid taxation altogether.
  • Reward investment and savings by exempting the first $35,000 of dividend, interest, or capital gains income, then reducing tax on the remainder to the earlier stated rate.
  • Offset a lower tax rate by using revenue from tariffs on foreign imports and also provide incentive for domestic production.

Immigration Reform

  • Halt illegal immigration by securing our porous borders and strengthening internal enforcement.
  • Stand with the majority of Americans who agree that mass illegal immigration must be reduced by restoring the 20th century average of 250,000 to 300,000 per year.
  • Support a national campaign of assimilation to teach newly adopted Americans our culture, history, traditions and English language.

Moral Values

  • Preservation of the rights of unborn with high regard for the mother especially in times of rape, incest or the health of the mother. I promote and believe in the Democrats for Life Platform (95-10).
  • Focus law enforcement on Internet related crimes against children.
  • I will support increased effort to prevent deaths caused by drunk drivers.
  • I will support my fellow veterans and others to preserve the "Under God" phrase in the pledge of allegiance.
  • I will work against the monopolistic trend in ownership of newspapers and TV.
  • Marriage should only be between a man and a woman; we should not tolerate special rights for relationships outside of traditional marriage, nor allow people to re-define what a marriage is.

China

  • If elected, I will work hard to bring a Chinese Consulate to St. Louis. A Consulate will allow the people of our district a chance to establish business connections and do business with the Chinese. This means a great opportunity to create jobs within our district and allow businessmen easy access to new markets.

As a widower and a senior citizen I know the problems of that age group and pledge to be their spokesman. I am the only candidate who is a veteran of WWII, the Greatest Generation, according to Tom Brokaw, on the ballot in the state of Missouri. I believe I am the best man to represent you and I hope you agree.

Read my website and pass it on to your mailbag. All residents have equal access to my office. As I do not take donations from anyone, I can be an independent contractor with you, the voter. Help me in this unprecedented approach to a major campaign.

I have written a book entitled "Four Generations of Service” which actually begins over 150 years ago, detailing my family's service to the community state and nation. My editor said it will be connected to this website very soon so look for it and enjoy a new look to the future based on the past.

Thank you for your interest.
