Trade
Several key industries have experienced job losses, notably textiles, apparel manufacturing, agriculture and the high tech fields. I advocate intelligent fair trade, not free corporate profiteering, which allows our corporations to move their plants to low cost labor areas, or outsource high tech jobs overseas.

Economic prosperity for future generations requires trade reform; which includes revisiting the NAFTA and GATT policies. We need to ensure that these policies are written in the best interest for the citizens of the United States and our cooperative trading countries on both an economical and social level.

World Policy

Foreign policy should not solely be dictated by an executive decision of the President. The Congress and the President should determine foreign military action jointly.

The United States should not be looked upon as the policemen of the world, but as an example of democracy at its best. The best interest of the State should be taken into consideration of course, and when action is deemed necessary, it must be decisive, not just politically correct.

Iraq
In 2004 I stated that I supported our servicemen and women who are gallantly serving in unstable conditions in Iraq. I also stated that I was hopeful that the conflict would be settled by the time I assume office. Obviously, two years later we are still occupying Iraq with no end in sight. We still need to stabilize the Iraqi government and we still need to bring our troops home.

Now In 2006…Now In 2006…Current polls indicate that the Iraqi people believe that things will be worse if we stay in Iraq. News reports in the United States are not providing us with the true status of our troops, progress of the Iraqi government and rebuilding efforts. What we are seeing is propaganda to make us feel better about sending our men and women off to war. We are seeing what they, the administration, want us to see.

We need to draft a plan to make the Iraqi forces take full responsibility for the violence in the streets and come up with a timeline to exit. I feel some manner of air cover could be maintained as troops pull out to give support to what forces are involved. Without this type of plan, we will make the same mistakes we made in Vietnam and look to be involved in a war without end.

The administration and the Republican controlled Congress appear to have the desire to wage wars all across the globe. I want our past faulty intelligence to be better prepared to provide better facts so as to protect our forces, especially naval forces, if and when they move into harms way off Asia, the Gulf of Mexico and Persian Gulf, from the possible use of anti-ship missiles against them. I talk to many high ranking Military Officers and none seem to be aware of the 3M-82 Moskit anti-ship missiles (NATO designation: SS-N-22 Sunburn). I recently flew over San Diego and saw the large carriers there. If what I read of the Sunburn they would be sitting ducks for new anti ship missiles and the loss of life if that is so would shock the US more that the shock and awe we were told would cause Iraq to be a slam dunk. So I want to be prepared.

To recover some of the costs involved in Iraq it seems reasonable to suggest a program where "The United States should request and receive repayments from the new Iraq equal to the money that has been spent on the rebuilding and defense of Iraq." This could be done over a period of time so that the new Iraq so that Iraq might continue to rebuild and grow economically.
